Malang, October 17, 2025 — The Center for Digital Talent Development, through the AI Talent Factory (AITF), held its second workshop on Friday, October 17, 2025, in Malang, East Java. This workshop marked the successful completion of Phase 1: Foundation and Baseline for all participants. The program aims to build capacity at the practitioner and specialist levels in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The event featured expert speakers from various partner institutions, including academia and AI industry practitioners, to deepen participants' understanding of end-to-end and applicable AI pipeline development.
The workshop began with remarks from the Head of the Center for Digital Talent Development, Said Mirza Pahlevi, D.Eng., and was officially opened by the Rector of University of Brawijaya, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc.
Prof. Widodo expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), University of Brawijaya, and international partners such as JICA DX Lab. He emphasized the importance of developing national AI talent rooted in academic research and oriented toward implementation in the public and industrial sectors. He expressed his hope that AITF would serve as a model for collaborative learning and innovation between the government, universities, and global partners.
The workshop was attended by 34 AITF participants from University of Brawijaya (UB), representing various faculties: 26 participants from the Faculty of Computer Science; 8 from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Statistics and Mathematics programs); and 3 from the Faculty of Engineering (Electrical and Industrial Engineering programs).
All participants were divided into nine teams to work on two primary use cases: Digital Space Oversight (PRD) and the Digital Talent Pool (DTP).
The workshop focused not only on progress reports but also included use case evaluations, technical discussions between teams and mentors, and feedback sessions from expert tutors from Komdigi, University of Brawijaya, and the Indonesian diaspora. Additionally, the event featured knowledge-sharing sessions through Expert Lectures by international speakers.
The Expert Lecture session was led by Indonesian diaspora Adhiguna Surya Kuncoro, who presented on "Engineering the Mind: Insights from Building and Researching LLMs at DeepMind." Adhiguna is an AI Research Scientist at Google DeepMind with a distinguished track record. Furthermore, Murugaraj Odiathevar from Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea, delivered a lecture titled "The State of AI 2025 – Technical Performance."
The visit by JICA DX Lab, represented by Masaki Abe, signaled the organization's strong interest in the AITF program. Mr. Abe attended the workshop and visited the AI Center at University of Brawijaya, where he was welcomed by Rector Prof. Widodo and Head of the Center for Digital Talent Development, Said Mirza Pahlevi.
Upon completing Phase 1, participants will enter Phase 2: Core & Customization. This phase requires participants to optimize models, perform advanced data exploration, and prepare AI system prototypes ready for testing and integration. This workshop was designed to ensure all participants are fully prepared to enter Phase 2 of the AITF program
