SURABAYA – The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), through its Digital Talent Development Center, organized the Workshop II of the AI Talent Factory (AITF) 2026 at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya. Held from April 16 to 17, 2026, this activity represents a strategic effort to monitor and ensure quality control over the progress of artificial intelligence (AI) projects developed by AITF program participants.

This workshop focused on overseeing the development of use cases in Phase 2, which includes stages such as model training, model selection, and prototype development. The primary focus of the participants’ projects covers tackling disinformation, defamation, and hate speech (DFK), as well as advancing child protection in the digital space (PAD).

The Head of the Digital Talent Development Center at Komdigi, Said Mirza Pahlevi, delivered technical guidance to ensure that each project progresses in alignment with its intended objectives and targets. In her remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FTEIC) ITS, Diana Purwitasari, expressed strong support for this collaboration, further reinforced by the presence of the Rector of ITS, who encouraged the participants. The Rector emphasized the university’s full commitment to the program, highlighting AI development as one of ITS’s key strategic priorities.

The Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, in his address to participants, underscored the importance of preparing national digital talent to face a rapidly evolving workforce increasingly integrated with AI technologies. He encouraged participants not only to master theoretical concepts but also to produce practical AI solutions that are relevant to national strategic needs.

In addition to progress presentation sessions, the workshop featured expert lectures from global industry practitioners. Esther Irawati Setiawan from Google delivered a session on Mastering Multimodality & Agentic AI, equipping participants with insights into developing enterprise-scale AI solutions capable of autonomously processing diverse data types.

The event also involved various stakeholders, including representatives from AWS, JICA, and the Internet Society (ISOC) Indonesia, providing broader perspectives to participants. Through intensive mentoring by technical experts and academic supervisors, participants are expected to refine their AI models before advancing to Phase 3 of the AITF program.

Overall, the implementation of Workshop II AITF in Surabaya proceeded smoothly and contributed significantly to strengthening the capacity of Indonesia’s digital talent in the field of artificial intelligence. Komdigi remains committed to conducting continuous monitoring to ensure the sustainability and success of the program through to its real-world implementation stage.
